In December 1996, Murphy USA opened its first retail store near a Sam’s Club parking lot in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Today, just a little over a decade later, Murphy USA is operating over 1,000 stores in 21 states throughout the U.S. - a growth that speaks to Murphy’s commitment to quality fuels, convenient locations, discount gas and customer service.

In November, 2006, almost a full decade after opening the first Murphy USA gas station, Murphy opened its first Murphy Express Store. Since that time, a total of 34 Murphy Express stores have opened in eleven states. Murphy Express is a larger format convenience store.
